Overall win for Facciotti at Riverglade MX Park

Round 7 of the Canadian Motocross Nationals at Riverglade MX Park in Moncton, NB proved to be another showdown of the titans in both MX1 and MX2.
It was full throttle for Colton Facciotti who won the MX1 overall on the strength of 1-1 heats; Teddy Maier who snared the MX2 overall with 1-3 heats; and Heidi Cooke who claimed her fourth consecutive Women’s Nationals overall thanks to yet another clean sweep.
Although Jeff Northrop grabbed the first MX1 heat holeshot, he would not finish in the top-10. Conversely, Dusty Klatt, who went down off the start, managed to slice-and-dice his way from the back of the pack into an impressive second place by the time the checkered was waved.
Klatt’s teammate and defending champ, Colton Facciotti, took control of the lead from Bobby Kiniry before the halfway mark and went on to take the win.
Third in the current points standings, Paul Carpenter, got off to a mid-pack start but he managed to knife his way into fourth by the end of the heat. His cousin and teammate Jack Carpenter sealed the top-five.
Heat two saw Klatt, Facciotti, Carpenter, Tyler Medaglia and Kiniry shoot into turn one in that order. It looked obvious from the start that the battle for the overall would go down between Klatt and Facciotti.
With Facciotti turning on the pressure a few laps into the heat, he and Klatt laid down such a blistering pace the chase group, led by Carpenter, could not even begin to match their speed.
By the midway mark Klatt succumbed to Facciotti, losing about five seconds on him as the race wound down. At the finish line, the duo had lapped up to fifth place and counted nearly one minute on third place Carpenter.
In the first MX2 heat, Kyle Beaton shot of out of the gate to snare the holeshot with Jeremy Medaglia, Nick Evennou, Kerim Fitz-Gerald, and Kaven Benoit in tow.
Series points leader, Teddy Maier, who found himself in sixth place going into turn one, found himself in second by the halfway mark.
Meanwhile, up front, Medaglia had displaced Beaton from the lead. Medaglia soon had to contend with Maier, however; it didn’t take long for the American to make his move and grab the lead.
Medaglia, despite riding for all he was worth, had to settle for second place at the finish line. Evennou managed to hang on to third place while Benoit kept fifth. Eric Nye, who started outside the top 10, managed to claw his way into a fourth place finish.
Aron Harvey pegged the second heat holeshot followed through turn one by Nye, Benoit, Evennou, and Beaton.
Defending champ, Nye, started hounding Harvey within a few laps and the two Americans went at it until Nye finally took possession of the lead around the halfway mark.
Once in front Nye stayed there to the checkered. Harvey settled into second and would finish there; he recorded third overall thanks to a seventh place in heat one.
Maier, meanwhile, who started around 10th place, moved into third place by the end of the heat, which was good enough to give him the overall.
In the first heat of Women’s Nationals, Heidi Cooke took control from the get-go. She put on one of her patented clinics – as she did at the first three rounds of the five-round series – gapping the rest of the field by two minutes.
The main battle revolved around second and third place, which went to Denaye Giroux and Kate McKerrol, respectively.
In heat two, Cook again towered head-and-shoulders above the rest of the field to book yet another win, which has given her a perfect score since the series kicked off in Kamloops.
Giroux carded another second place finish, which gave her second overall on the day. Jocelyn Killough, who DNFd the first heat, nailed down third.
McKerroll finished fourth, which coupled with her third place in heat one saw her cement the overall podium in third.
