The Gibsons Dodgers and the Ladner Red Sox took top spots in their respective divisions in the annual Ice Breaker Tournament held this past weekend at the Rotary Sports Park by the Mission Minor Baseball Association.

The team from Gibsons won gold in the Mosquito division, while the Mission Mavericks took the silver.

Ladner won the Midget division, and Prince George took the silver.

In the skills competition for Mosquitoes, Mission’s Garrett Brown won at Bocce Ball, and Gibsons won the Base Race. In Midget skills, Davis Pfitzeumaier from Ladner won the Home Run Derby with a shot over 400 feet, and the Ridge Meadows Royals won the Around-the-Horn competition.

The Aldergrove Allstars earned the traditional Mission Most Sportsmanlike Team Award for the Mosquitoes, and the Vancouver Mounties won it in the Midgets.

The tournament was a success, according to organizers. Teams from as far away as Prince George registered for the tournament, which began last Thursday evening. The championship games were held Sunday.

Mission will be hosting the Midget provincials next in August.
