The Langley United U15 Gold Boys soccer team sealed their provincial championship status on the weekend by defeating the Surrey Rangers 1-0.

The team qualified for the provincial championships in Nelson on the weekend by defeating the Surrey Rangers 2-1 at the B.C. Coastal Cup Championships, held at Coquitlam's Percy Perry Stadium eight weeks earlier.

It was at that April game that an Aldergrove member of the team, Sean Zimbiti, clinched the come-from-behind victory. In the last minute of play Zimbiti got behind the defender and knocked the ball up and over the goalkeeper’s head to give Langley the coastal championship.

The team used what brought it success all season long to win the championship: good defence, hard work and believing in themselves.

“We are a very low-scoring team,” coach Tom McQuade admitted.

But they more than make up for that with their tight defensive play.

During the four games at the Coastal Cup championships, Langley United did not surrender a single goal until the finals against the Rangers.
