Praise for budget choices

The budget update by the BC Liberals caught me completely by surprise for one reason: despite all the doom and gloom by the NDP and despite an unprecedented turn in the economy for the worse things really aren’t as bad as they could be. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised.
As a student, I was happy to see that K-12 education and post secondary education funding is not being cut. For those that need it, I’m happy health care funding is being increased by 18% over three years. Those are definitely the most important services that our government can provide.
What pleased me the most that was in these tough economic times when everyone is tightening their own personal belts, the government is slashing unnecessary costs such as advertising, travel and other administrative costs to make sure tax dollars go to services for British Columbians.
Crippling ourselves by running a sky-high deficit obviously isn’t the answer, and running no deficit isn’t the answer either. I honestly think the BC Liberals have found that middle ground we need.
