A visit from Stanley Cup winner Brad Thiessen provided a huge thrill for Abbotsford Training Rink summer campers on August 26.

“I remember when I was a kid, it meant a lot to see guys who were in the NHL,” said Thiessen, a 23-year-old goalie. “Part of going to the next level is coming back to spend time with kids.”

Thiessen, an Aldergrove native, signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins as a free agent in April after a three-year run at Northeastern University, and he was called up to serve as one of the team’s “Black Aces” during the Stanley Cup run.

“He’s a great example for the kids,” noted ATR president Bernie Saywell.
