Bus 531 gets boot before it even begins
This is one of the few buses seen around Brookswood. TransLink has cancelled a bus that would connect Brookswood to White Rock, going through several busy industrial areas. Township council isn’t happy about the decision and wants it reversed.
TransLink has cancelled its plan for a bus to connect south Langley to White Rock and the Township council isn’t happy about it.
At Monday night’s meeting, council voted unanimously to write a letter to TransLink expressing its disappointment and urgency to reinstate it.
The motion to write a letter came from councillor Jordan Bateman who pointed out there is no east-west transit service north of 56 Avenue and Highway 10.
“Whereas the TransLink Mayors’ Committee has approved $130 million in additional funding, which includes a three per cent property tax increase and three-cents-a-litre gas tax increase, on the basis that it would meet the funding commitments for the many projects and services TransLink has initiated, planned and delivered over the past few years,” said the motion.
“This bus was in the planning and [in the budget],” said Bateman.
The 531 bus would have connected Brookswood-Fernridge and other Langley residents to regional amenities like the Campbell Heights Industrial Park, Grandview Corners, Morgan Crossing, and White Rock itself, he said.
