A routine check of people hanging around the Langley City 7-Eleven resulted in the arrest of a man accused of trying to sell a stolen bike on Craigslist.

When police told the suspect he had a warrant out for his arrest, he tried to get away from police.

A police dog was called in and a search of the area found the suspect hiding in a large concrete drainage pipe inside a chain-linked compound nearby.

Matthew Sherwin, 23, was arrested. He was taken to hospital with a dog bite injury.

Sherwin is accused of stealing a bike back in July 2008 and posting it on Craigslist.

A meeting was arranged with the ‘seller’ and it was confirmed the bike was, in fact, the same one that had been stolen days earlier.

Sherwin was arrested but failed to make two court appearances, resulting in the warrant for his arrest.
