A cyclist is nursing bruises after he was struck in the back by the mirror of a passing car as he rode along 8 Avenue after dusk on Tuesday.

Police report that the impact knocked the man flying. When he landed on the ground, his helmet shattered.

The mishap occurred at 9 p.m. in the 26900-block of 8 Avenue.

Cpl. Holly Marks said that the 44-year-old Langley man is certain that his helmet was equipped with flashing lights on the back and that they were functioning at the time of the collision.

The vehicle is described as a larger black pickup truck with a line of lights on the front and side step panels.

The cyclist is recuperating at home and is in a great deal of pain, Marks said.

“He stated that he was very thankful not to be paralyzed, given how he landed on the road and the condition of his helmet,” Marks said.

Police are asking anyone with information that would assist them in identifying the driver of the pickup truck to call the Langley RCMP detachment at 604 532-3200.

Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
