A self-check out unit at Aldergrove Library has been working overtime, and is worn out.

A report to council says that in most libraries, a self-check-out system will handle one-third of all checkouts on one station. In Aldergrove, the use of self-checkout accounts for 41 per cent of all circulation.

The library manager advises that the unit has reached the end of its useful life, with the number of errors now unacceptable.

Langley Township council on Monday voted unanimously to release $12,550 from the library reserve fund for a replacement unit.

Regulations for Municipal Surplus Reserves require a council motion for expenditures from the fund in excess of $10,000. The Township has about $88,000 in the library reserve fund.
