Senior Whalers fail to duke it out

Ballenas junior boys blank Thunder to advance to playoffs

The Ballenas Whalers senior varsity football team’s season is over.

The Whalers’ hope for a playoff shot was dashed by the conference-leading Windsor Dukes, who, despite having a low roster number, easily dismissed Ballenas 61-14 in North Vancouver last Friday. The Dukes remain the only unbeaten team in the Western AA Conference.

The Whalers ended the season with a 1-4 record.

While the senior boys have struggled, the junior Whalers remain strong. They recovered from their only loss, a 12-9 decision to Pacific AA Division leaders Holy Cross Crusaders two weeks ago, to score a 52-0 shutout win against the Spectrum Thunder in Victoria on Nov. 1.

The junior Whalers finished the regular season with a 4-1 record and are ranked second in the Pacific AA. They advance to the playoffs and will play their first game against Samuel Robertson Technical, the third-place team in the Valley AA Division. The game site and host team for the contest is still to be determined.
