Penticton Vees continue winning ways with Team Canada

Two Penticton Vees players are on Team Canada Black at the World Under-17 Challenge

After winning their opening game of the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Dawson Creek, Team Canada Black shut out the Czech Republic 5-0..

The Canadian squad, which features Penticton Vees players Massimo Rizzo and Luke Reid, had a surge of offence in the second period with Jamieson Rees (Hamilton, Ont./Sarnia, OHL), Alex Newhook (St. John’s, N.L./Victoria, BCHL) and Alex Beaucage (Troi-Riviéres, Que./Saskatoon, WHL) getting the goals.

“We’ve only been together a week now, but we’re coming together really well, bonding both on and off the ice. We got off to a bit of a slow start in this game, but the result speaks for itself. We had a good last two periods, we’re happy with the result and hoping to bring tonight’s effort into tomorrow’s game against the U.S.,” said Newhook, who recorded three points in the win.

Team Canada Black added another two more goals in the third period from Sasha Mutala (Vancouver, B.C./Tri-City, WHL) and a power play goal from Matthew Robertson (Sherwood Park. Alta./Edmonton, WHL) making it 4-0.

Team Canada Black faces the U.S. next on Tuesday at 6 p.m. (Pacific).
