Kimberley’s Selkirk Secondary hosts senior girls volleyball tournament

Ten teams from across the Kootenays competed in the two-day tournament

On Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4, Selkirk Secondary hosted the senior girls volleyball tournament.

Athletic Director at Selkirk, Drew Wetmore says the tournament was attended by ten teams throughout the Kootenays who braved the winter road conditions.

“Thanks to all referees, scorekeepers, coaches, bus drivers and players for making the tournament a success,” said Wetmore.

The ten schools that competed included Selkrik, Prince Charles, Fernie, Crawford Bay, Elkford, Fernie Academy, Mount Baker, Sparwood, David Thompson and Mount Sentinel.

Mt. Baker Secondary came in first, Fernie Academy placed second, Sparwood Secondary was third and Fernie Secondary in fourth, while Selkirk placed ninth overall.

The Selkirk team is made up of ten players: Zoe Marina, Katrynna Zimmer, Ava Kile, Olivia Sheppard, Madison Amy, Aspen Cooper, Kylie Hilton, Sierra Cooper, Arissa Toffolo and Lisa duToit.

Up next: the Selkirk sr. girls volleyball team will play David Thompson in Invermere at the AA Kootenay Zones on November 17 and 18.

In other news from Selkirk sports, the sr. boys soccer team placed second at the Kootenay Zone Tournament hosted by Stanley Humphries Secondary in Castlegar on October 27 and 28.
