The Kamloops Blazers are hoping they’ve hit rock bottom.
The struggling Western Hockey League club has lost seven straight games — most recently on Tuesday night, when they were blown out 8-3 by the visiting Tri-City Americans — heading into two home games this weekend.
“Obviously, there’s no easy answers,” interim head coach Scott Ferguson said after the loss to Tri-City, in which his team was outshot 49-28.
“We just seemed to implode for five to seven minutes in each period. . . . It’s not 15 minutes in a period, it’s 20 minutes.”
Dating back to Thanksgiving Monday’s 12-5 home-ice drubbing at the hands of the Medicine Hat Tigers, the Blazers have dropped eight of their last nine — the only win coming in overtime against the Regina Pats on Oct. 16.
In that time, Kamloops has been outscored 55-23.
The loss to Tri-City put Kamloops under the .500-mark for the first time this season, one point ahead of the fourth-place Kelowna Rockets in the five-team B.C. Division.
The Blue and Orange will have a good chance to get back in the win column tonight, when they host the struggling Edmonton Oil Kings — losers of three straight games and seven of their last eight.
Kelowna will then visit Interior Savings Centre on Saturday night, followed by home games against the Red Deer Rebels on Tuesday, Nov. 10 and the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday, Nov. 13.
The Blazers will then hit the road for three games in the U.S., against Spokane, Everett and Seattle.
The puck drops tonight and tomorrow at 7 p.m.
