The pee wee (age 10-11) Victoria Hitmen capped off an undefeated first season Saturday in Kamloops with a 46-13 win over the Prince George Icemen in the B.C. championship final.

Gavin Cobb led the Hitmen with three touchdowns and was named Hitmen most valuable player. Declann Michielin added two TD’s while Gevhahn Hardisty McNally and Dontae Bull scored one each.

Lambrick Park girls fifth at B.C.s

Lambrick Park high school’s senior girls field hockey won fifth place at the AA provincials last week. Lambrick defeated Brentwood College 2-0 on the last day of the tournament.

Lambrick’s undoing came with 1-0 losses to South Okanagan secondary and Southridge secondary (Surrey), and a 2-1 loss to Little Flower Academy.

Little Flower (Vancouver) was the eventual champion, winning 3-1 over Collingwood (West Vancouver). Third place went to Southridge and fourth to Sentinel (West Vancouver).

This year’s May Tully shield game was cancelled due to a large number of athletes sick. The Tully shield pits the top Lower Island AA team versus AAA team. Not all bad for Glenlyon

After going winless in the round robin at the provincial championships, the Glenlyon Norfolk School Gryphons responded, winning their final game of the tournament 3-2 over Sullivan Heights (Surrey), ending on a positive note.

Long season continues for S.I. Thunderbirds

After 17 games the South Island Thunderbirds major midget boys hockey team have scored three or more goals in just five games and are 4–1 in those contests.

On Saturday night at UVic’s Ian Stewart Complex, the Thompson Blazers were the latest team to frustrate the T-birds, keeping them off the scoresheet in a 3–0 Blazers win.

It was the second straight game in which the T-Birds failed to score, extending the team’s scoring drought with just four goals in the past five games.

On Sunday the Thunderbirds fared little better, losing to the Blazers 6-2. Kyle Richter and Mark Walton scored for South Island.

South Island is home this weekend for two games against the Cariboo Cougars, ending the T-birds first half of the season. Game times are 5:20 p.m. at the Ian Stewart Complex on Saturday, 9:30 a.m. at Panorama on Sunday.
