—Chilliwack's peewee A3 Junior Bruins braved a long drive on snowy roads to play in a tournament in Enderby last weekend. They were the only team to travel a significant distance, and played games against tough and experienced teams.
The locals fared well though, placing fourth overall. The Bruins opening game was an 8-1 loss to Penticton which was marred by spotty officiating and injuries to three Chilliwack players. In the final game of the tournament, the Bruins battled the same Penticton team to a near-standstill, losing 2-1.
Josh Reelie was outstanding in goal, Bronson Wood turned in a stellar effort and Dylon Adams, Ryan Trottier and Anthony Imanse gritted their way through injury woes.
— Chilliwack’s atom A2 junior Bruins thumped Seattle 10-1 in exhibition action last weekend.
Goal scorers were Colton Goldthorp, Brayden Blakeway, Josh Irvine, Jared Pitkethly, Dylan Merritt and Jason Bowen. Strong defensive play came from Joel Babuin and Jayden Castles.
— Chilliwack's A2 midget Bruins travelled to Aldergrove last Thursday and shut out their hosts 2-0.
The Kollen brothers were first to post a point. A heads-up pass from Conner Kollen to Dennis Kollen caught the Aldergrove defense off guard. Dennis streaked in to open the scoring.
Chilliwack paid seven visits to the penalty box in the second period, but endured thanks to the stellar goaltending of Robbie Gibbs. He was ably supported by the blueline crew of Kirtus Carins, Carson Depourcq, Cody Esau, Kyle Fircus, Trev Johnson and Steve Mitchell.
Johnson earned an assist on the final Chilliwack goal, passing the puck to speedster Trevor Cameron.
