The North Delta Devils more than made up for some offensive shortcomings Saturday night, scoring three times in each period Tuesday evening in Ladner on their way to a 9-4 victory over the Delta Ice Hawks.

The Devils, shut out over the final 40 minutes in a 4-2 loss to Delta Saturday at the Sungod Arena, peppered Ice Hawks netminders Nicholas Sadowski and Shanson Lunny with 43 shots on their way to their 16th victory in 22 starts.

But it wasn’t until the third period North Delta broke open a high-scoring Pacific International Junior Hockey League contest. After taking a 2-0 lead on tallies by Jamie Fowler and Mike Wilson, the Devils allowed the Ice Hawks to pull to within one goal on four occasions, before netting three unanswered third period goals.

Wilson finished the night with two goals and a pair of assists, with Stephen Saretsky collecting a hat trick. Other goal scorers were Sean Cessford, Jamie Fowler, Sam Vikich and Julius Ho.

Defenceman Michael Nardi matched Wilson’s game-high point total, earning four assists. Trevor Kang added three helpers, while Ho had a pair to finish the contest with three points.

The victory moved the Devils (16-4-2, won-loss-overtime loss) to within four points of the first place Richmond Sockeyes in the Tom Shaw Conference. The Sockeyes have played two more games than North Delta.

The Ridge Meadows Flames, leaders of the Harold Brittain Conference with a 14-4-3 mark, visit the Sungod Arena tomorrow (Saturday) for a 7 p.m. contest with the Devils.
