*Wild volleyball perfect

Mount Baker senior girls volleyball team were perfect this past weekend, going undefeated through eight matches without losing a set at their home tournament. "Julie Sternig got some reps as a power hitter and finished with nine hits," said coach Andrew Zurrin. "The team got some excellent attacking production from Justine Rundberg, Stef Schoeberger and Kristy Donaldson."

Chelsea Nutini, a Grade 11 middle with the team, likes how the team is playing and is looking forward to doing well at provincials. "We've done pretty well in most of our tournaments, particularly in the East Kootenays," she said. "We get along really well, so usually our communication on the court is alright. Sometimes it's lacking and that's when we have troubles. And we've got some strong hitters."

The team heads off to Prince George for provincials in two weeks, from Dec. 1 to 6.

*Rushworth named to All-Star team

Mount Baker Wild football team lost their last game of the season to Invermere in the Kootenay. The Wild had their struggles in their inaugural season, but receiver/kicker Chris Rushworth was solid all the season. Rushworth was rewarded for his efforts with a spot on the Interior Conference All-Star team, as voted by league coaches.

"I was in the middle of basketball practice when [football] head coach Don Erichsen came down and gave me the news," said Rushworth. "It was really nice to hear. It's nice to know all your efforts are appreciated and other people notice them."

*Unique tournament coming up at Laurie

>Laurie School in Cranbrook is hosting five other East Kootenay schools in a "Girls Volleyball Friendship Tournament". Teams joining Laurie will be Parkland, T.M. Roberts from Cranbrook, McKim from Kimberley and Adam Robertson from Creston.
