Aldergrove Kodiaks started out great in Wednesday's tilt against top rivals, the Richmond Sockeyes, with a 2-0 lead at the end of the first.

However, the Kodiaks disintegrated in the second with a series of penalties that cost them two of three goals by the Sockeyes in the period on power plays. The Kodiaks only made one shot on their net at the tail end of the second.

The third saw a rebound with the Kodiaks outshooting the Sockeyes, but nither side was able to sink it in the net, ending the game 3-2.

Scoring for Aldergrove Kodiaks at 6:32 was Brandon Long from Travis Gorman and Chris Price and at 8:54 by Emanuel Haider (unassisted).

The Sockeyes outshot the Kodiaks two to one that night, 42-21.

This leaves the Sockeyes on top of the league with 36 points to the Kodiaks 26.

Kodiaks face the conference's top team, the Ridge Meadows Flames (27 points) Friday away, and the Mission Icebreakers on Sunday, before hosting the Squamish Wolf Pack at home on Wednesday night.
