With the regular season behind them, the Meadow Ridge Knights are gearing up for the post-season, with five of the community football program’s eight teams advancing.
The midget Knights, the association’s most-senior team, will be travelling to the Okanagan this weekend to take on the Kelowna Sun in the first round of the play-offs after finishing the season with a 6-4 record, good for third-place in the six-team league. The injury-riddled Knights squad limped into the post-season after falling 48-0 to the undefeated Chilliwack Giants last weekend. Adam Burns played his best game of the season on both offense and defense, while Nick Stoyeff and Colten Glen made positive contributions on special teams, gaining valuable yardage on kick returns. Tyler Noor and Trevor Senger were in on several tackles while Caleb Sutton punted well.
The bantam Knights closed out their season with a 28-6 loss to Chilliwack Giants, finishing with a disappointing 0-8 record, and missing the play-offs. Tyler Kiovsky recovered an onside punt for the Knights and three plays later, ran the ball in for the team’s only touchdown. Matt Chicka and Paul Cavalli played well on the Knights’ defense.
The Meadow Ridge Blue Knights junior bantam team fell 32-6 to their Chilliwack counterparts, finishing the season with a 6-4 record. The Blue Knights travel to Abboysford this Saturday to take on the Falcons in the first round of their play-offs.
The Gold Knights junior bantam team finished out of the play-offs with an 0-10 record.
At the peewee level, both the Gold and Blue Knights advanced to the post-season, each finishing with identical 6-4 records.
The atom Gold Knights advanced to the post-season despite an 18-6 loss to the Chilliwack Red Giants in the pouring rain on Saturday. Darius Joseph, Sebastien Sparks, and Jake Loftus made some key tackles on defense. The offense had two turnovers inside the Giants’ 20-yard line. Tato Ferreyro Araya, Tyler Spencer and Seth Hebeler kept the ball moving on offense with some great runs. The Gold Knights will face Abbotsford in the first round of the play-offs, while the atom Blue Knights narrowly missed out on the post-season after losing 24-18 to the Chilliwack Blue Giants.
