A name from Chilliwack's hockey past has been named the new head coach of the Western Hockey League's Victoria Royals.

Dan Price was an assistant coach under Jim Hiller when the Chilliwack Bruins made their WHL debut in 2006-07 and was eventually made an associate coach.

When Hiller was fired by the Bruins after the 2009 season, Price followed him out the door, moving to Alberta as the general manager/head coach of the AJHL's Drumheller Dragons. He spent three years with Drumheller and three more as an assistant coach with the WHL's Tri-City Americans before becoming the assistant coach and manager of athletic recruitment for the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team.

Price helped guide the Blues to back to back Ontario University Athletics (OUA) west division semi-finals in 2014-15 and 2015-16.

The 42 year old St. Albert, AB. native now circles back to the Bruins-turned-Royals for the first head coaching job of his career.

"I'm very grateful that they decided to give me this opportunity and I want to do my best," said Price in a Royals news release.

He takes over the spot vacated by Dave Lowry, who was recently hired by the LA Kings as an assistant coach. Price is the third head coach since Chilliwack relocated to Victoria after the 2010-11 season.
