OTC Sistas slam Green Rockets 6-0

The OTC/Sunterra Sistas went out with a bang as they throttled the Green Rockets 6-0 in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Division 2 action Thursday night at MacDonald Park.

The Sistas (15-1-1) secured the division title with superb defence from Marisa Wiebe, Michelle Mulholland, and Becky Birbillis.

Cassandra Otto scored a goal in each half, while Jennie Currie’s left-footed laser and Nicole Williams gave the Sistas a 3-0 lead at the recess.

Deanna Baker and Andrea Zubot added singles in the second half, while Diane Neudorf and Currie shared the shutout. The Rockets finished the summer 8-9.

Stars brush back Penticton

The Vernon Silver Stars got goals from six different players in a 6-4 win over Penticton United in Okanagan Men’s 55+ Soccer League play Thursday night at MacDonald Park.

Rob Ross hustled up front, scoring once, and took the Italian Kitchen Man of the Match for the league-leading Stars (16-2-2). Penticton dipped to 14-5-1.

Nigel Clack (2), Keith Chancellor, Dick Markin and John Matjeika also tallied for the Stars.

In other play, the Kelowna Kickers held off Vernon Kal Tire 3-2 at Mission Sports Fields.

Andy Marshall, on a gorgeous header, after s Daryl Hazell corner, Hazel on a booming high shot, and Brad Hall handled the offence for Kelowna (10-6-3).

The tiremen came out flying in the second half with Dennis Chabot stoned by keeper Andy Miller on a breakaway in the 49th minute.

Rob Parkin moved past a defender and neatly side footed in a Chabot cross for Vernon’s opening goal near the 72nd minute.

 

Ken Rath took a feed from Jim Sparrow and pulled the tiremen (8-8-2) within one at 80 minutes. Vernon pressed hard for the equalizer, but the Kelowna back four, led by Orchard Park Mall Man of the Match Hazell, held strong.
