Viper golf tournament on tap
The second annual Vernon Vipers Tee Off for KidSport tournament goes Sunday, Aug. 24 at The Rise Golf Club.
Entry fee is $160 per player and you receive 18 holes with a power cart, tee gift, dinner and prizes and a ticket to the Vipers-Penticton Vees pre-season B.C. Hockey League game on Saturday, Aug. 30 at Kal Tire Place.
“KidSport will have the 50/50 proceeds at the game but the silent auction will be at the golf tournament only,” said Lee Ranger, head pro at The Rise.
Telus has donated eight tournament packages for juniors. Call Ranger at 250-545-7425 to find out how to enter for the free entries.
The tournament is a Texas Scramble format, including Vipers players and coaches and celebrity guests. It will be a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Contact The Rise at 250-545-7425 to register.
“We should have between six to 10 players represented, plus (new assistant) Kevin Kraus and myself,” said Viper head coach/GM Jason Williamson.
Net proceeds will be shared by KidSport Vernon, a charitable arm of Sport B.C. which has distributing money to underprivileged children that could not afford to play.
Large hole sponsor signs will be supplied by The Rise. Sign artwork must be submitted to email@example.com by Sunday, Aug. 10.
Title, corporate and major sponsor packages are also available. They all include rounds of golf at The Rise and Viper game vouchers.
The Vipers, meanwhile, have hired a new athletic therapist/equipment manager.
Nolan Bowker, an assistant equipment manager with the American League Abbotsford Heat, replaces Gord (Hoon) Cochrane, now with the WHL Regina Pats.
The Vipers open main camp Friday, Aug. 29 at Kal Tire Place with 60 players.
The Victoria Grizzlies have transferred the CJHL playing rights to Rory McGuire(95)(D) to the Kingston Voyageurs of the OJHL for futures.
