Records broken, streaks snapped at Saratoga Speedway over the weekend

Some great track conditions made for some tight racing in the Wilroc Lite class at Saratoga Speedway over the weekend.

Once again the track record was broken, as Mark Stuart posted a 14.431 in qualifying, which broke Mike Haslam’s 14.459 time set two weeks ago.

Haslam, Ryan Orchard and Jeremy Bird won the three dashes, while Dave Emmerson and Tyler Clough won the heats.

All 12 cars took part in the 35-lap main event, but the field was reduced to 10 early on by virtue of a collision.

Haslam took an early lead not to be relinquished, holding off Emmerson to grab his first main event win of the year, and snapping Emmerson’s main event win streak at four.

IMCA Modifieds

Ten I.M.C.A Modifieds ripped up the track on Saturday.

Gregg Sagmoen and Travis Stevenson took the dashes, while the Monks brothers – Ryan and Jeff – won the heats.

A 35-lap main event saw Brad Kotscherofski pull away from the field early, but Stevenson took over on Lap 10 and held the lead until Lap 25, when

Chris Beaulieu jumped ahead for good.

Stevenson finished second and Ryan Monks crossed the line in third.

Bombers

A shortened field of four bomber cars hit the track on Saturday. The Larsons, who claimed 75 per cent of the field, dominated the division once again. Darren “Bam Bam” Larson  took the four-lap dash, then led from start to finish in the 10-lap heat.

The 15-lap main saw all four cars run bumper-to-bumper throughout.

Darrel Larson, who had the pole position, held on to the lead for the entire race, holding off his brother Darren and nephew Boston to take the win.

Extra laps... This weekend marks the return of one of the most popular events at Saratoga Speedway, the Crash to Pass Boat race.

In this race, each car starts with a 10-12-foot boat attached to its bumper, with the objective being to destroy the others’  boats. In previous years this event has drawn people from all across the Island with this year looking to be no different. Accompanying the carnage will be the Hornet cars, Roadrunners, Figure 8s and the Island Mini Stocks.
