PoCo Saints go marching to a B.C. Provincial Championship

The Port Coquitlam Saints intermediate A squad have locked up a spot in this weekend’s B.C. Provincial Championships after defeating the eighth-place Nanaimo Timbermen in the playoffs.

PoCo dominated the league, finishing eight points ahead of the second-place Victoria Shamrocks and going 17-1 in the regular season to take 34 points.

The Saints’ stand a good chance of hoisting a banner once the dust settles in Richmond, where the provincials are being held this week. The club, which is coached by Bob Bell, led in goals for with 223 and goals against, with only 111, while recording the least amount of penalty minutes.

 

A'S, BELLIES CO-HOST NATIONALS

The Coquitlam Adanacs and New Westminster Salmonbellies are use to duking it out against each other on the lacrosse floor.

But next week the two organizations are joining forces to co-host the 2014 Lacrosse Nationals, which will be held in both cities between August 4 and 9.

Several players from both clubs have joined up with Team B.C. to take on squads from in all age groups from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

Games will be held at the Queen’s Park Arena and the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.
