More big moments are sure to come in Anna Slang’s soccer career.
But she’s definitely savouring her most recent accomplishment.
Slang, 15, a Frances Kelsey student, was the MVP and scored the lone goal on a header in the first-ever triumph by the Under 15 Vancouver Island Wave in the Provincial Premier Cup during a 1-0 victory over Surrey United.
“Just the highlight of my soccer career so far,’’ she said.
Slang started in the Cowichan Valley Soccer Association as a U6 player and moved up the ranks to U14 when she was scouted for the B.C. Soccer Premier League Wave.
Her second season with the Wave started really well individually and for the team.
“We started 4-0 and then we kind of dropped down in the middle of the season a little bit, finished in third place,’’ she said.
But the Wave really cranked it up in the playoffs, winning as the underdog 2-0 in the semis and then following with the final win during Slang’s heroics.
As a central defender, she really looks up to Emily Zurrer.
“It’s meant a lot to me because it shows that it’s possible and that would be a dream come true to accomplish half of what she has in her career.’’
