Comox Valley well represented at BC Summer Games

The Comox Valley is sending a 37-person contingent to the Nanaimo 2014 BC Summer Games, which run July 17-20 in Nanaimo, Parksville and Duncan.

They will be part of the Zone 6 (Vancouver Island-Central Coast) competing against seven other zones in an event that features over 3,200 participants (approximately 2,900 athletes, 500 coaches and 225 officials) competing in 19 sports (including three for athletes with disabilities).

The age range is 11-18 years for able bodied athletes and 13-50 for athletes with a disability. Opening ceremonies go Thursday, July 17 with sports competition July 18-20 and closing ceremonies Sunday, July 20.

As well, Megan Ratcliffe of Bowser, who golfs out of Crown Isle in Courtenay, is on the Zone 6 team. A schedule of events, venues, list of participants, results and other information is posted at www.bcgames.org.

FUN & GAMES Almost 2,800 volunteers have come together to make the event possible … some will prepare over 32,000 meals in four days … over 2,100 medals will be awarded in 290 presentation ceremonies … ceremonies and competitions are free and open to the public …
