Heat take title

The Okanagan Test Rise Heat took the tourist route to the Vernon Co-Ed Slo-Pitch League playoff title last weekend at the DND diamonds.

The pennant-winning Heat, with only a 10-man roster, went through the losers bracket before building up a 12-1 lead and cruising to a 14-6 win over the Dirty Sneakers in the final.

The Heat started off with a big win over Hoes and Bros before falling to the Hurricanes in preliminary action.

Facing elimination in their third game Saturday, the Heat ambushed Dead or Alive 13-0 before erasing an early 11-1 deficit for a 15-12 extra-inning victory over the Steelers.

The Heat then brushed back the Hurricanes 7-5 and after a 15-minute break, moved on to face the undefeated Dirty Sneakers, who the Heat had to beat twice in a row for glory.

Tired and having to power through injuries, the Heat once again had to go to extra innings and pulled out the 13-11 win.

The Heat received solid bats from Matt McLellan, Steve English, calendar girl Conni Damini-Hayward, Lynn Gregoire, Jay Keis and Dustin Coombs, while Deejay Valenzuela, Conor Gilhooly, Tiffaney Keis and Jen Moen all recorded game-saving unbelievable plays on defence. Great pitching was turned in by Coombs and English.
