Hoopster Brar signs with UPEI

Former Abbotsford Senior Panthers basketball standout Matt Brar has landed a scholarship from the University of Prince Edward Island.

The sharpshooting 6'5" small forward graduated from Abby Senior in 2013, having averaged 24 points per game with the Panthers during his Grade 12 season. He moved on to UBC, but as the year wore on, he came to a realization.

"I missed playing basketball too much to just do school," he said with a chuckle.

To that end, he connected with UPEI coach Tim Kendrick, and his skills seem well-suited to the program's up-tempo offence.

"It seemed like a really good fit," Brar explained. "They shoot the ball a lot (from the outside), and that's probably my favourite part of the game. I think I can help them out."
