The Western Lacrosse Association tends to be unpredictable, and that will be the case on Friday (May 30) as the Nanaimo Timbermen travel to face the Burnaby Lakers.

Due to a quirk of the schedule, the T-men (1-2-1) have already played four games this season while the Lakers (0-0) are finally hitting the floor tonight (May 29) in New Westminster.

Burnaby is considered an early-season favourite in the WLA, but back-to-back games can be tough and the Lakers may still be finding their lacrosse legs compared to a T-men team that's already run up and down the floor a lot this month.

"[The Lakers] made a lot of moves in the off-season; they're trying to make a run here; they're going to be good," said Zak Boychuk, T-men goalie. "We're one of the hardest-working teams out there and if we work hard I think we have a real good shot of beating Burnaby in Burnaby."

Kaleb Toth, Timbermen coach, said it will be important for his team to try to dictate the play.

"We have to make sure that we put the pressure on them…" Toth said. "[If] we continue to improve and continue to have confidence, we'll continue to win games."
