Wow, what a weekend! Great weather, friends, food and a fabulous party! Of course there is always some fantastic golf. We started with Karaoke and ended with Karaoke courtesy of Katrina LeNoury. She’s not only a golfer, she entertains as well.

On Saturday evening 27 women enjoyed a horse-race, supervised by Keith Gibson (Gibby), as well as a chipping contest. The winner of the horse-race was the team of Karen Kloske, Carmen de Winter and Linda Callender. The closest to the flag in the chipping contest was Nancy Riva at eight inches.

On Sunday morning, Mother's Day, 60 women teed off in search of the elusive good golf game. Both women winning the Low Gross and Low Net defended their titles from last year. Christina Proteau from Port Alberni won the Mildred Laver Trophy for Low Gross with a solid 74 and Comox's own Carmen deWinter drank out of the Low Net Cup again with a score of 65, defeating her next opponent by seven shots. The Archie Dick Trophy for Low Net Team was won by Mary Buchanan, Carmen de Winter, Fran Robinson and Maggie Miller.

This event wouldn't be possible without the support of our generous sponsors. Again, Marie McCooey, Glenda Mosher and Lisa Jorgensen, the women from Re/Max Ocean Pacific Realty, were our title sponsors. Visual Sounds Store and the Canadian Western Bank were our hole-in-one sponsors but unfortunately no one cashed in this year.

The Comox Ladies are fortunate to have 18 hole sponsors each year. This year we had 19. Bill Wheeldon Construction, Chinook Forest Products - Ian and Ed Leakey, Dave Wheeldon - CIBC Wood Gundy, Comox Men's Club, Gibby's Golf Shop - Keith Gibson, Glacier Gutters - Rick McCaughan, J.R. Edgett - Jack and Lynda Hornstein, Jan Lefeber - denturist, M. Petersen Contracting -Marty Petersen, Raylec Power - Rick Curiston, Re/Max Ocean Pacific Realty - Lynn Wittick, Roxanne's Fashions - Valerie Porteous, Scorpios Hair Design - Cheri Kahiamoe, Scott McLeod Contracting, Shar-Ons All Sizes - Sharon Anderson, Shilo Painting - Mark Vandervoort, Sun Life Financial - Rick Siddall, Toscano's Restaurant - Bill and Wendy Meade and Tracy Branch Contracting. A big thank you also goes out to Quality Foods, Thrifty Foods and John's Independent Grocers who always donate to our tournament. Without these sponsors our tournament wouldn’t be so successful, so please support these very generous local businesses.

With the help of the weather, Superintendent John Brownlee, Ernie Neal and Sean Carroll had the course in great shape. Adrian, Michaela and the staff of the Tee Box Restaurant provided the golfers with a delicious meal and luscious desserts.

Join us next year on Mother's Day for this fun annual event!
