Cowichan Cycles is staging a six-hour mountain bike relay on Maple Mountain near Crofton Sunday.

“This is more of a cross country race, as opposed to a downhill race that we typically do,’’ explained Cowichan Cycles’ Robin Dutton.

Registration starts at 8:30 a.m., with racing getting under way at 10.

People can participate in the event as an individual or on teams of two or three.

The event will be utilizing the lower part of the Maple Syrup loop which the Cowichan Trail Stewardship Society has put its heart and soul into developing. The course will take riders to the top of the mountain, 2.5 kilometres up the mainline to branch M600 and then hooks up with the lower, flowing section of Maple Syrup.

Cowichan Cycles hosts the usual downhill on Mount Prevost June 9.
