Baseball: Trail Little League season underway

Trail Minor Baseball threw out the first pitch on Saturday as the Little League season got underway at Andy Bilesky Park.

The rain held off long enough for the Minor division’s Trail Eagles to down Salmo 15-7 in the opener.

In a Major division pitching duel the Eagles beat Bella Tire by a close 2-1 score, while in the third and final game of opening day the Minor Trail Red Sox squeaked by the Pirates by a score of 5-4.

It’s been a promising start to the year, as Trail Minor Baseball saw its  numbers increase from approximately 80 ball players last season to 110 this year.

The 2014 baseball season will be highlighted by the Senior Men’s Provincial Baseball championship at Butler Park in August, as well as the Little League Minor provincials at Andy Bilesky Park, July 12-19.

Tonight Trail Pirates host the Beaver Valley in Minor division baseball at 5:30 p.m. at Andy Bilesky Park.
