Snow to Surf race goes this Sunday
They're coming from all over the world to compete in the 32nd annual Royal LePage Comox Valley Snow to Surf Adventure Relay Race.
This year's mountain-to-marina event goes Sunday, April 27. Teams of nine or 10 people will ski, snowshoe, run, kayak, bike and canoe from Mount Washington to the Comox Marina.
The race gets underway around 9 a.m., with the first teams hitting the finish line shortly before noon.
There are multiple age categories and all levels of competition, from intense to weekend warrior.
Entries come from all over Vancouver Island, Lower Mainland, and the Pacific Northwest. But as always, local interest will focus on the Old House-Comox Valley Nissan Banzai.
Although their combined age qualifies them for the Masters category, the perennial Snow to Surf powerhouse will be in the Open Men's division this year.
Bill Brett formed the team in 1995, and there are still five original members on the squad.
Brett has brought in some new members this year, and says the Banzai expects tough competition from the North Island Tanks as well as a veteran Victoria squad and an unknown entity from Calgary.
Spectators will get their best view of the race from the finish area at the marina, and drivers are asked to obey course marshals along the route.
