Heat light up Comets, beat Canucks affiliate 7-2
After struggling in head-to-head match-ups vs. the Utica Comets throughout the season, the Abbotsford Heat broke through in a big way this weekend.
The Heat, losers seven of their last eight games vs. the Vancouver Canucks affiliate, finally solved the Comets with a pair of wins at Utica Memorial Coliseum.
Abbotsford prevailed 2-1 on Friday on Ben Street's overtime goal, and completed the sweep in dominant fashion with a 7-2 triumph on Saturday.
Two goals from Brett Olson, Jordan Kremyr's first career AHL goal, and a three-point night from Street (one goal, two assists) were among the highlights on a night of offensive pyrotechnics.
Zach Davies, Shane O'Brien and Josh Jooris (on a second-period penalty shot) also scored for Abbotsford, while Joni Ortio turned aside 32 of 34 Comets shots.
Utica goalie Joacim Eriksson, so good against the Heat all season, got the hook just past the midway point of the second period after allowing five goals on 24 shots. Joe Cannata allowed two goals on 14 shots after coming on in relief.
The Heat wrap up a six-game road trip on Sunday at the Toronto Marlies. The game begins at 1 p.m. Pacific time, and will be televised live on Sportsnet 360.
