Silvertips finish 2-3-1

The Salmon Arm Silvertips lost 4-2 to the  Terrace Ice Thursday afternoon at the B.C. female Midget Tier 1 Hockey Championships at the Shaw Centre.

Mikayla Striling scored the first goal for the Tips 17:44 in the second from Cassidy Marshall (Vernon). Sydney Castle (Vernon) also added one from Jenna Lazar (Vernon) and Maddison Turner in the third.

“It was a good tourney, really entertaining for the fans here,” said assistant coach Rob Bauml, of Vernon. “I am very proud of these girls.”

Salmon Arm finished fifth at 2-3-1, in the seven-team tourney.

The North Island Impact grounded the Richmond Ravens 4-3 in the championship game  Thursday night.

The game was a see-saw affair; every time North Island scored Richmond, answered.

Payton Bray from North Island opened the scoring 2:28 into the first period from Shaylee McConnell.

Richmond answered two mintues later with Yvonne Mikulcik’s first of two on the night.

The Impact’s Olivia Knowles scored 13:54 in the first from Erin Pickup. The Ravens responded with Mikulcik’s second of the period from Brianna Trottier.

Once again the Impact jumped ahead in the second which was shortly matched by the Ravens Tamara Wong tying it 3-3.

Lisa Lloyd, from Knowles, connected for the third-period winner.

The Ravens went 6-1 in preliminary play, including a 5-3 win over North Island, who ended up 5-2.

Graduating players for the Silvertips are: Ashley Tinney (Lumby), Turner and Jaime Sedore.

Other players from the Vernon area on the Salmon Arm roster are: Catlyn Marshall (Armstrong), Hannah Scherck (Vernon),  Chelsea McCaig (Enderby), Bailey Berndt (Enderby), Cailee Bauml (Vernon) and Taylor Vandale (Vernon).
