Jon Cornish's outstanding season in the Canadian Football League in 2013 has earned the New Westminster native yet another accolade.

Sport BC gave the Calgary Stampeders running back the Best of BC award at its 48th annual Athlete of the Year awards in Vancouver on Wednesday.

In 2013, Cornish rushed for a league-high 1,813 yards winning the CFL's most outstanding Canadian and most outstanding player awards. The graduate of St. Thomas More Collegiate in Burnaby also won the Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada's top athlete in 2013.

Wrestler Stacie Anaka, a City of Burnaby employee and resident of the city, was named the top female senior athlete.

In 2013, won a silver medal in the 67-kg weight class at the world wrestling championships in Budapest, Hungary. The Simon Fraser University product also won the Pan-American championship and the Grand Prix of Germany as well as taking a bronze at the World University Games.

In addition, Sport BC named Douglas College student, badminton player and Burnaby resident RuiLin Huang as the college athlete of the year for winning the national women's college title. In her five year career with Douglas she racked up 209 wins and one loss.
