The Vancouver Whitecaps released a new secondary kit on Wednesday, a familiar dark blue tunic with shiny, almost holographic icons and emblems and the Bell logo on the front.

The new uniform will be worn this Saturday for Vancouver's first game of the 2014 season – the team's fourth season in the MLS – at BC Place, when the Caps takes on the New York Red Bulls.

The Caps call the jersey's colour a "familiar deep sea blue" and say it's "an ode to the water that surrounds and makes up the landscape of Vancouver." The shiny bits on the side are Whitecaps logos that circle up to the jersey's collar.

"As we enter our 40th anniversary, we're very excited to launch our fifth kit since joining MLS," said Whitecaps FC chief operating officer Rachel Lewis. "This club has a storied history and that great tradition is honoured in several features on this new jersey. Players and fans will be able to wear this jersey with pride."

The Whitecaps unveiled a brown third jersey in 2012. Last year, Vancouver released a new home – first – kit, too.
