Heat comeback falls short in Chicago
The Chicago Wolves staved off a third-period comeback by the Abbotsford Heat, winning 5-3 at Allstate Arena on Saturday evening.
The Wolves built a 4-1 lead through two periods on the strength of goals by Adam Cracknell, Alex Bolduc, Evan Oberg and Shane Harper, with Chad Billins mustering the lone Abby marker.
In the final frame, the Heat rallied on goals by Brett Olson and Corban Knight, but that was as close as they would get, as Chicago's Ty Rattie scored into an empty net to ice the victory.
Heat goalie Olivier Roy got the hook just past the midway point of the second period after allowing four goals on 20 shots, paving the way for Aaron Dell to make his AHL debut. Dell, an Airdie, Alta. native, was signed by the Heat earlier in the week after Joni Ortio was summoned by the Calgary Flames. He stopped all seven shots he faced.
The Heat (33-16-5) wrap up their five-game road trip with a rematch vs. the Wolves on Sunday, and subsequently return home for a Friday-Saturday set vs. the Grand Rapids Griffins.
