The University of the Fraser Valley men's golf team was recently voted No. 1 in the nation by the Golf Coaches Association of Canada.

It's an awfully impressive accomplishment, considering that the poll encompasses not just teams in the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) where the Cascades typically compete, but also university programs which compete against U.S. schools.

The UFV men, who won both the PacWest conference and CCAA titles last fall, accrued 41 points in the national poll, ahead of the University of Western Ontario Mustangs, the Victoria Vikes, the Laval Rouge et Or and the Toronto Varsity Blues.

The Cascades women, who also swept the PacWest and CCAA championships, were No. 4 in the national rankings.

"Even as the reigning Canadian national golf champions, it still came as a bit of a surprise, albeit a pleasant one, to be given the number one ranking alongside many of the larger programs in Canada,” Cascades head coach Chris Bertram stated in a press release. “Regardless, it is a gratifying to be seen as the best in the nation in the opinion of the other coaches. Now it's up to us to continue to prove them right."
