Cecilia Faustino

Skating is all about being focused for Cobble Hill’s Cecilia Faustino.

The Grade 8 student through Regent Christian Online Academy is new to the Duncan Skating Club and has made giant strides in skating since getting her start at Kerry Park.

“I think I’ve improved a lot,’’ said Faustino, 13. “But I still have a lot more to improve because I need to get better. My goal has always been to get gold.’’

She’ll be going for the gold at Kerry Park this weekend in regional competition in the midst of a busy schedule that previously included the Cowichan Valley Showcase, with the Duncan ice show Alice’s Wonderland March 1 just ahead.

“Right now, I’m just working on my competition, just getting my program all fixed and make sure everything’s polished properly,’’ Faustino said. “After that, we’ll probably start working on the big show.’’

Her heart is in competitions, “but doing the shows is lots of fun, just showing off your moves and stuff,’’ Faustino said.

“She’s doing great,’’ said coach Lorraine Francisty. “She’s a hard-worker. She’s competing in Star 5 13 and under at the regional championships on Feb. 9.’’
