Abbotsford's PacWest volleyball, basketball teams play at home this weekend
It's a busy weekend of PacWest sports in Abbotsford, as all six Columbia Bible College and University of the Fraser Valley programs in the collegiate conference play at home.
• The CBC Bearcats volleyballers host the Douglas Royals on Thursday and Saturday (women 6 p.m., men 8 p.m. both nights).
There's an awful lot of parity on the PacWest men's v-ball circuit, and the 'Cats men are in first place and ranked No. 5 in the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) with an 11-7 record. They face a stiff test in the Royals, No. 11 in the CCAA.
The CBC and Douglas women are tied for fifth at 4-14, and both will be looking to solidify a playoff spot.
• The Capilano Blues visit the UFV Cascades at the Envision Athletic Centre on Friday and Saturday (women 6 p.m., men 8 p.m. both nights).
The Cascades women, the defending national champions, are currently No. 5 in the nation and tied for first in the PacWest at 16-2.
The UFV men (5-13) are two games back of the College of the Rockies Avalanche for the sixth and final PacWest playoff spot, and will look to score an upset this weekend vs. the Blues, ranked No. 10 in the nation.
• The Bearcats basketball teams are also at home, hosting the Camosun Chargers (Friday, women 6 p.m., men 8 p.m.) and the VIU Mariners (Saturday, women 1 p.m., men 3 p.m.).
Both the CBC men (2-12) and the women (1-13) have ground to make up in order to qualify for the playoffs.
