VIDEO: Kevin Bieksa wins it in OT; 5-4 Vancouver over Phoenix

A two-game spit of Alberta-bred optimism was cancelled out last Thursday, when the Canucks lost a 1-0 third-period lead (how unique) and fell to the Nashville Predators. And on Sunday, the Canucks blew two separate two-goal leads, with not one but two goals again almost entirely self-imposed.

But they saved their heroics for the final frame.

Kevin Bieksa put away his own rebound to score his second of the night past Mike Smith, in a game that featured rare sequences of offensive outburst from Vancouver and Phoenix.

The Canucks are averaging under three goals-per-game this season and spit out four, while Phoenix rode Vancouver's mistakes and the hot hand of Antoine Vermette, who picked up his second hat trick of the season to keep pace with the Canucks.

"It was kind of a sloppy game and with the weird goals it was kind of a strange game," said Vancouver forward Chris Higgins ( "It's nice to be on the winning side of those games and nice to score a bunch of goals; it's been tough to come by recently."

Shane Doan scored the other goal for Phoenix. Jannik Hansen, Chris Higgins and Zac Dalpe added the others for the Canucks.

Vancouver hosts the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night. The Canucks beat the Oilers 2-1 last Tuesday in Alberta and have won three of their last four, but only four total in January.
