Sunday saw Campbell River’s U-15 Waves host their rivals Harbour City at the Pinecrest pitch.

Despite the greasy field conditions it was perfect weather for a soccer game. The Waves played well in the opening half, controlling the ball in the midfield.

Torin Halverson opend the scoring for Campbell River, but just minutes later, Nanaimo tied it up 1-1.

Despite the misstep, the Waves battled hard shutting down most of Nanaimo’s through balls. In the last minute of the first half, Harbour City scored the go-ahead goal on a rush down the middle.

The second half saw much action at both ends of the pitch. Waves had several great chances to tie the game and the best opportunity was on a corner kick, but the redirected ball hit the cross bar, and the game ended 2-1 in Nanaimo’s favour.

This Sunday, Campbell River returns to the Pinecrest field to take on Comox Valley. Game time is 1 p.m.
