Six rinks are curling at the local club this weekend as Nelson hosts the Kootenay Senior Curling Playdowns.

Defending champion Tom Shypitka's rink with Bill King, Don Freschi and Nelson's Fred Thomson curled Saturday morning.

The playdowns wrap up Sunday with the winner going on to represents the Kootenays at the BC Senior Champs in mid-February in the Comox Valley.

Shypitka came within a game of capturing the provincial banner last year, losing in the final.
