The stingiest defensive team in the Western Conference lived up to its reputation against the Abbotsford Heat on Friday evening.

The Grand Rapids Griffins got a flawless 35-save outing from goalie Tom McCollum and snuffed the Heat 3-0 at Van Andel Arena, snapping Abbotsford's two-game win streak.

The Griffins, the defending Calder Cup champions who came into Friday's game three points ahead of the Heat for first place in the Western Conference, got goals from David McIntyre, Mitch Callahan and Landon Ferraro.

Heat netminder Joey MacDonald got the start against his old team – he's the Griffins' all-time leader in goalie wins, games played, minutes played and saves. He stopped 29 of 32 shots.

The Heat (25-14-2) wrap up their six-game road trip on Saturday with a rematch vs. Grand Rapids (27-10-3). They return home to face the Utica Comets, the Vancouver Canucks' farm team, next Friday and Saturday (7 p.m. both nights, Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre).
