Peewee Bruins second in Stagg contest voting

Chilliwack's peewee A1 Bruins have closed the gap, but still trail the Surrey Penguins by a large margin for top spot in the Stagg Chili Saves for Success contest.

The Bruins are taking on teams from across the country in a race to get the most online votes at staggchili.ca/2013-vote/.

The team with the most votes wins $5,000.

As of Wednesday afternoon the pesky Penguins had 4,400 votes and the Bruins were second at 2,248. The Port Coquitlam Raiders were leading the race before Christmas, but they've faded to third with 1,054 votes.

There are 10 teams in the Western conference. The second through fifth place teams each claim $2,000 and two more prizes will be awarded by random draw. Prize money is meant to offset team expenses such as ice-time and equipment.

The contest closes March 7.
