The Vancouver Province newspaper’s list of B.C.’s best 15 senior boys’ volleyball players includes Duncan Christian School’s Douglas Groenendijk.

Groenendijk came in at No. 12 in the senior boys’ super 15 class of 2013-14.

The Province got together with head coaches of B.C.’s Canadian Interuniversity Sport men’s volleyball teams to make the selections.

Groenendijk, it was noted in the report, is “newer to the sport than most top-end players, but has high-end tools and can become a dominant force at the net.’’

Groenendijk has been a two-sport athlete during his days at Duncan Christian, combining basketball and volleyball while dabbling in track and field and ball hockey. But he’s just been leaning more toward volleyball in the past year as his future direction.

Groenendijk was also honoured last Sunday as the Cowichan Valley’s No. 5 overall Youth Athlete of the Year.
