VIDEO: Vancouver Giants fall in shootout to Portland Winterhawks

The Vancouver Giants faulted on the serve on Sunday night, dropping a 5-4 shootout decision on home ice to the Portland Winterhawks.

New Giants Dominik Volek had his second goal in his second game with Vancouver, Dalton Sward scored on the penalty kill, and Brett Kulak and Dalton Thrower each had a goal and an assists for Vancouver.

Payton Lee was strong in replacing goalie Jared Rathjen, stopping 24 of 25 pucks shot his way.

Vancouver led 4-3 until the Winterhawks tied the game with 2:41 left, courtesy of a shorthanded marker from Adam De Champlain.

Canadian World Junior alums Derrick Pouliot and Taylor Leier both scored in the shootout for Portland, while Cain Franson and Volek both failed to convert for Vancouver.

The Giants take on the Blazers next this Friday, in Kamloops.
