Hyacks start strong in tourney

The New Westminster Hyacks began the Archbishop Carney senior girls basketball tournament in Port Coquitlam by downing Port Moody's Heritage Woods Kodiaks 60-41 Thursday.

Princess Frias led the way for the Hyacks with 16 points while Sonia Heer contributed 12 and Madi Obrovac 10.

They were to play either the host Stars squad or the Sardis Falcons from Chilliwack on Friday.

On Tuesday, the Hyacks defeated the Moscrop Panthers 59-23 in a Burnaby/New West league game with Lauren Denusik scoring 12 points. NWSS also took the junior girls game 60-10 with Zoe Roberts scoring 14 points.
