Jamie Benn, a former Victoria Grizzlies forward and homegrown star on the Peninsula Panthers Junior B squad, was on the 25-player roster announced by Hockey Canada today to represent our country at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, starting next month in Russia.

Benn, a 24-year-old fifth-year forward with the Dallas Stars, is one of five B.C.-born players on the team. The native of Central Saanich and grad of Stelly's secondary joins goaltender Carey Price of Anahim Lake (Montreal Canadiens) and defencemen Dan Hamhuis of Smithers (Vancouver Canucks), Duncan Keith of Penticton (Chicago Black Hawks) and Shea Weber of Sicamous (Nashville Predators) on the team.

The Games take place Feb. 7 to 23 in Sochi.
